Insights on Digitization at the International Summit of the Book

The third annual meeting of the International Summit of the Book this year convened in Paris at the Grand auditorium, Quai François Mauriac. Organized by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) in partnership with the Centre national du livre (CNL), the conference laid emphasis on the role of translation as the source of a European way of thinking and on digitisation as a new memorial space

 

Under the theme “Digitization as the new memorial space” Serageldin delivered a lecture entitled “French language and English language in the digital age: similarities and contrasts”, and acted as moderator in a panel discussion on “Shared Digitization Programmes: bringing together a common heritage” Panelists were: Caroline Brazier, director of Collections, British Library; Catherine Dhérent, Grande Collecte project coordinator; Johnvan Oudenaren, director of the World Digital Library, Library of Congress; Michael Keller,  director of Academic Information Resources, Stanford University; Bruno Racine, president of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

 

The International Summit of the Book was launched in 2012 by the Library of Congress and is meant to be an annual global Meeting to discuss the book in all its dimensions.
