Paris, France,
15 October 2003 --
Before a distinguished
audience that included Nobel Laureates, the President of the French Academy of
Sciences, the president of the Institut Curie, and distinguished members of the
College de France as well as a large number of interested persons, Ismail
Serageldin delivered A special memorial lecture to celebrate the centennial of
Marie Curie's first Nobel Prize in 1903. He used the occasion to highlight
the responsibilities of scientists in a new era, and encouraged the audience to
create chapters of the Mouvement Universel pour la responsibilite scientifique
(MURS), a global movement dedicated to the greater involvement of scientists
with society at large. It is worthy
of note that Ismail Serageldin is also the President of the international
MURS.
