Women Defending Peace conference in Geneva
Geneva, 24 November 2004  -- The Suzanne Mubarak Womens International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) and the Swiss government hosted a major conference on the topic of women defending peace. Ismail Serageldin, a member of the Board of the SMWIPM, participated in the conference, which was chaired by Mrs. Mubarak, and which featured many eminent personalities including Dr. Boutros Ghaly and Nobel Laureate Jody Williams. The conference used an excellent study called the Wounds of War as a background document and produced a succinct action plan to move beyond words and rhetoric. Serageldin paid tribute to the exceptional work of Dr. Aleya Bindary Hammad as the driving force in getting the conference organized and thanked the Swiss authorities for their enormous efforts to make the conference such a success.
