Overcoming Global Hunger:

Ismail Serageldin has been a passionate spokesman for a global campaign to abolish hunger in our lifetime. The conference he organized in 1993, involved distinguished leaders such as President Jimmy Carter, UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, President Masire of Botswana, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen and Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank. [The proceedings were published by the World Bank in 1994 -- Overcoming Global Hunger : Proceedings of a Conference on Actions to Reduce Hunger Worldwide, Hosted by the World Bank and Held at the American University, Ismail Serageldin, Pierre Landell-Mills (Editors)].

Serageldin has also written on this topic for the mass media. Of particular note was the column, The New Abolitionists, published in the Earth Times in July 1996, preceding the Rome Summit on food security.
